Self-taught keyboard player, guitarist, accordionist and thereminist Nalyssa Green is a composer, songwriter and singer who has been active on the Greek indie music scene since the late 2000s. She will be performing on the Panoramic Steps at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on Friday, May 31, in an admission-free event as the SNFCC bids farewell to spring and welcomes the summer.

Manolis Famellos | Athens | May 24

Greek arthouse pop-electronica act Manolis Famellos and his five-member band will perform a career-spanning show at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center's Great Lawn on Friday, May 24. The set will also include tracks from his latest album, "I Epochi ton Skoupidion" (The Age of Garbage). The show starts at 9 p.m. and admission is free of charge.

Suspect in Palio Faliro murder denies accusations

A man detained in connection to the murder of his 53-year-old sister in the southern Athenian district of Palio Faliro last week is denying any involvement, state-run news agency ANA-MPA reported on Tuesday.
The 52-year-old suspect, who was arrested outside his apartment in Kallithea on Monday, reportedly keeps repeating that "he doesn't know anything" about the crime.

The Frogs | Athens | May 3 & 4

The eccentric Opera Chaotique duo and the renowned Berlin-based Merlin Puppet Theater join forces at the Greek National Opera's Alternative Stage in a subversive reworking of Aristophanes' comedy "The Frogs," for two final performances on Friday and Saturday. In this reworking, Dionysus meets Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Bukowski, Artur Rimbaud and the spirit of Tom Waits.

Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk | Athens | May 12-22

Veteran French actor Fanny Ardant directs the Greek National Opera in an ambitious and unconventional production of Dmitri Shostakovich's "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk" at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on May 12, 15, 17, 19 and 22. Based on the novel by Nikolai Leskov, the opera addresses the subject of a woman's position in provincial pre-revolutionary Russia.

Miracles from the Bible | Athens | April 23

Continuing its Sacred Music cycle in the runup to Easter, the Greek National Opera presents "Miracles from the Bible," a program comprising Benjamin Britten's "Canticle II: Abraham and Isaac," Arvo Part's "Sarah Was Ninety Years Old" and Michalis Adamis' "Yini Perivevlimeni ton Ilion I" (A Woman Clothed with the Sun).

Dance Day | Athens | April 21

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) and the Greek National Opera celebrate International Dance Day on April 29 early with an all-day program of events dedicated to this wonderful art form. Performances, parties and classes will cover the range of genres, from tap, tango and breakdance to Greek folk dances. The admission-free event starts at 10 a.m.
