Bulgaria: Medieval Bulgarian Rulers Series Continues with Latest Coin in Tribute to Tsar Ivan Asen II

The Bulgarian National Bank has issued (17th September) the fifth entry in a series of coins entitled "Medieval Bulgarian Rulers," which has been issued intermittently since 2011. The latest coin features the Bulgarian ruler Ivan Asen II (circa. 1193-1241) who became emperor of the Bulgarian lands in 1218 and ruled until his own death in 1241.

Bulgarian Film was Selected for "Berlinale" for the First Time in 29 Years

The film "Aga" by director Milko Lazarov was selected in the main program of the 68th edition of the "Berlinale" cinema festival.

Aga is co-produced with the Bulgarian National Television and is the first Bulgarian film in the main official program of the Berlin Film Festival since 29 years after the film Ivan and Alexandra directed by Ivan Nichev.

Museum Exhibits Replica of Crown Worn by Medieval Bulgarian Rulers

A replica of the crown, which was supposedly worn by medieval Bulgarian rulers, was presented in the National History Museum (NIM) in Sofia on Tuesday.

The replica portrays the crown which was supposedly manufactured in the Vatican and presented as a gift by Pope Innocent III to Tsar Kaloyan in 1204.
