Karacaahmet Cemetery

A 400-year-old Istanbul cemetery that includes the tombs of figures who served in Ottoman palaces has been plundered by treasure hunters.

The tombs at the Ayrılık Çeşme Cemetery on Istanbul's Asian side have been looted or damaged by unidentified people who dug the area illegally with the goal of finding gold and historical artifacts, according to a claim made by an expert.

Veteran cinema and theater actor Halit Akçatepe, who died on March 31 at the age of 79, was laid to rest Istanbul on April. 2.

A ceremony was held for Akçatepe at the Caddebostan Culture Center, attended by his first and second wives, daughters and granddaughters, as well as many friends and fans. 

A short film on Akçatepe's life was shown at the start of the ceremony. 

Renowned Turkish actor Sümer Tilmaç, who died of a heart attack at the age of 67 on June 12 during an Istanbul wedding ceremony, was laid to rest yesterday, June 14. According to the hospital?s statement, Tilmaç, who had been undergoing treatment, had a serious heart failure. 

After a ceremony at the ?akirin Mosque, Tilmaç was buried in the Karacaahmet Graveyard.
