The death toll from severe rainstorms that lashed parts of Greece, Türkiye and Bulgaria increased to 14 on Wednesday after rescue teams in the three neighboring countries recovered seven more bodies.
Two people dead from West Nile virus
Eight new cases of West Nile virus and two patient fatalities were reported in Greece over the last week, highlighting the dangers of mosquito bites.
This summer, a total of 11 cases have been reported to the National Public Health Organization, 10 of which were more serious due to central nervous system symptoms.

Five arrested for voting fraud to appear before prosecutor on Thursday
Five people arrested on Sunday for allegedly violating electoral legislation in Sofades in Karditsa, central Greece will appear before an investigative magistrate on Thursday.
They were released pending the hearing of the case.
Man threatens to jump off building in Karditsa
A man is threatening to jump from the roof of the courthouse in Karditsa in central Greece.
Police have cordoned off the area while a trained negotiator is trying to convince the man to come down.
The man's motivation is not yet understood.

Farmers clash with police in central Greece
Police forces used chemicals to thwart an attempt on Monday by farmers to climb on to the E65 highway in Karditsa, Central Greece and set up a blockade. Tension prevailed at the scene, while the farmers walked onto the highway and held a general meeting.

Second senior bishop dies of Covid-19
The Metropolitan Bishop of Kastoria, Seraphim, died from complications caused by Covid-19 at the age of 61 on Tuesday, becoming the second senior Greek cleric to succumb to the virus.
Seraphim tested positive in early December but as his health deteriorated, he was admitted to the 424 General Military Hospital of Thessaloniki, where he was intubated on December 20.

Mass testing conducted in Thessaly to tackle viral load
Health authorities were conducting mass tests in three municipalities of Thessaly, central Greece, where, despite a gradual easing of the viral load, research by the University of Thessaly showed that infections remain high.
