Storm 'Penelope' brings floods and landslides in central, southern Greece
The arrival of a storm system dubbed Penelope has brought gusty winds, intense rainfall and flooding in several parts of Greece.
So far, the weather system has mainly affected central regions and the Peloponnese, with the biggest problems recorded at the mountainous region of Agrafa, in the regional unit of Evrytania.
Eight arrested in connection with PPC equipment thefts
Police on Friday arrested eight people aged between 19 and 38 and are looking for another two in connection with the theft of large quantities of pole-mounted transformers and power cables belonging to the Public Power Corporation (PPC) from fields in the wider area of Karditsa in northern Greece.
Larissa to get its own discount mall in November
Fashion City Outlet, Thessaly's first discount and entertainment mall, will formally opening its doors in Larissa on November 15, it announced on Friday.
The new outlet will offer fashion items at competitive prices along with combined with entertainment options.
It will host 75 stores selling clothes, shoes, fashion accessories, sports equipment and electronic goods.

Racket trading in forged driving licenses busted
A prosecutor in Lamia, central Greece, has brought charges of running a criminal gang against 15 suspected members of a local racket that had been trading in forged driving licenses.
The 15 suspects are to defend themselves before a prosecutor this week after being given an extension to prepare their defense on Friday night.

Heavy rainfall causes problems in Attica and beyond
A heavy thunderstorm on Sunday afternoon, which followed a similar downpour the night before, caused problems on roads in many parts of Athens.
The fire service received multiple calls to pump out flooded basement homes and businesses in parts of the city center.
Rainwaters flooded premises on Patission Street, Michail Voda and Alexandras Avenue as well as other major roads.
Man, 60, gets suspended sentence after spearing cat
A 60-year-old man from Karditsa, central Greece, trapped a cat in a home-made cage in the yard of his home before spearing it with a harpoon, according to local reports.
According to Thessaliatv.gr, Ermioni Gianakkou, a representative of the animal rights groups Diasozo (I save) visited the scene of the attack and said the cat had been speared through the stomach.
Farmers to roll out tractors across Greece over the week
Farmers in Karditsa set the tempo on Monday for nationwide action by Greek agricultural producers protesting high taxes, rising fuel costs, crippling social security contributions and seizures of properties and assets due to overdue debts.
