New president to be sworn in on Friday
Prokopis Pavlopoulos is due to be sworn in as Greece?s seventh president at 6 p.m. on Friday during a ceremony in Parliament.
After taking up his post, the former interior minister will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and then go to the Presidential Mansion for the official handover from outgoing Karolos Papoulias.

Tsipras; Samaras attend luncheon by Pres. Papoulias in honor of future Pres. Prokopis Pavlopoulos
Outgoing President Karolos Papoylias hosted an official luncheon in honor of his successor, Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Wednesday, only a few days ahead of his departure from the Presidential Mansion.
The lunch included PM Alexis Tsipras and opposition leader Antonis Samaras. The lunch was announced today, even though it had been arranged since yesterday.
Pavlopoulos easily elected new Greek president
Former conservative minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos was elected by Greece's Parliament on Wednesday evening as the new president of the republic, with 233 deputies voting in favor.
32 MPs voted "present", while his opponent Nikos Alivizatos garnered the support of 30 MPs.

PM Tsipras expresses optimism that Greece will overcome difficulties (Video)
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras expressed his optimism on Wednesday that Greece will overcome the current crisis its in and move forward.
In the short dialogue he had with outgoing President Karolos Papoulias upon his arrival at the Presidential Mansion for their scheduled meeting, the Prime Minister characterized the current situation as very "critical" for the country.
