Med presidents issue urgent joint appeal on climate crisis

Following an initiative launched by Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the presidents of the member-states of the Arraiolos Group - Greece, Italy, Croatia, Malta, Portugal, and Slovenia - issued a joint appeal on Thursday, urging urgent action to address the dangers posed by the climate crisis in the Mediterranean.

Food from canceled presidential reception donated to charity

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Monday arranged for hundreds of meals to be delivered to four charities that feed people in need. 

Sakellaropoulou took the initiative after a big reception that had been planned at the Presidential Mansion to mark the 49th anniversary of the restoration of democracy in Greece was canceled due to the wildfires. 

Migration, traffickers discussed during Maltese president’s visit

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and her Maltese counterpart George Vella observe a guard of honor before their meeting at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday. Vella, who is on an official visit to Athens, also met with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and discussed issues of common interest such as migration and the fight against smuggling networks.

New parliament sworn in

Greece's new Parliament was sworn in on Monday, following the general elections held on June 25. The ceremony took place in the presence of Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

Following the religious oath, Muslim members of Parliament swore on the Quran, while those who preferred to do so, took the political oath.
