Popular singer Vasilis Karras dies, aged 70
Popular Greek laiko singer Vasilis Karras, known for his distinctive raspy voice, died on Sunday after a long battle with cancer, state-run broadcaster ERT said. He was 70 years old.
He had been treated in European Interbalkan Medical Center and was recently infected with Covid-19, a local news portal said.

Car crash in Kavala leaves 61-year-old passenger dead
One dead and one injured after a car crash outside the northern city of Kavala on Saturday night.
According to the police, the car hit a signpost and then fell into a ditch. The 33-year-old driver and the 61-year-old passenger, both of Albanian descent, escaped the crashed car and were transferred to the hospital.
The 61-year-old man died later at the hospital.
‘Z’ author Vassilis Vassilikos dies
Vassilis Vassilikos, a highly acclaimed Greek writer best known for his 1967 political novel "Z," has passed away at the age of 89.

Bulgarian embassy condemns actions of Bulgarian that lowered Greek flag
The Bulgarian Embassy in Greece on Saturday condemned the actions of a 35-year-old Bulgarian man who attempted to flee justice following his arrest for lowering the Greek flag at the passenger port in Kavala, saying his behavior had been "illegal" and "regrettable".
Bulgarian man arrested for flag incident at Kavala harbor
Officers of the Kavala CentralPort Authority arrested a 35-year-old Bulgarian man after he lowered the Greek flag from a mast in the harbor of the northern Greek town while hoisting a Bulgarian flag and apparently yelling, "This is Bulgaria."
In an announcement, the Kavala Central Port Authority said the incident occurred on Friday.
Two people dead from West Nile virus
Eight new cases of West Nile virus and two patient fatalities were reported in Greece over the last week, highlighting the dangers of mosquito bites.
This summer, a total of 11 cases have been reported to the National Public Health Organization, 10 of which were more serious due to central nervous system symptoms.

Czech tourist dies on Thasos beach
A Czech tourist has died after collapsing on a beach on the northern Aegean island of Thasos, with eyewitnesses saying that it took 51 minutes for an ambulance to reach the scene.
The woman, who was aged between 45 and 50, is understood to have collapsed shortly after emerging from swim at Astrida beach, in the southern part of the island.

ND’s Mitsotakis back on the road, as party leaders tread the campaign trail
New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis resumed his pre-election campaign tour on Tuesday, after testing negative for Covid. Mitsotakis posted a photo on his personal Instagram account with the negative test result, calling it "The good news of the day."
He had tested positive for the virus on Friday and had to cancel several events, including a planned trip to Mount Athos.
