Newly elected Labour prime minister Keir Starmer will kickstart his plan to "rebuild Britain" on his first full day in charge Saturday, after his party's landslide election win ended 14 years of Conservative rule.

Stefanos Kasselakis, leader of the left-wing Greek opposition SYRIZA party, congratulated the United Kingdom's new Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the Labour Party for their "huge victory" in Thursday's elections.

In a social media post on Friday, Kasselakis praised Labour's mission as an inspiration to all progressive parties in Europe. 

“We’re going to ensure you have affordable energy, we’re going to rebuild infrastructure, and we’re going to give workers hope,” said Keir Starmer in his first statements in Downing Street as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Earlier, he had been tasked with forming a government by King Charles.

Starmer’s Vision for Britain

Labour leader Keir Starmer has been officially appointed as the new Prime Minister of Great Britain following a decisive victory in yesterday's early parliamentary vote. After the election results were confirmed, Starmer met with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace where he received the monarch's commission to form a new cabinet.

At around 2 PM (Greek time) on Friday, Keir Starmer arrived at Buckingham Palace.

There, accompanied by his spouse, Keir Starmer met with King Charles, who officially appointed him as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom following his sweeping victory in yesterday’s elections, and invited him to proceed with forming the country’s next government.

Rachel Reeves, a former children’s chess champion and Bank of England economist, is expected to become Britain’s first female Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Following Labour’s landslide victory, Reeves is expected to take over the ministry after being the party’s shadow finance minister in opposition.

Shares in London rose today after Labour’s sweeping victory in the general election, creating a sense of stability for investors who expect it to end years of market volatility.

The blue-chips FTSE 100 index rose 0.3 percent after posting its best daily performance in nearly two months yesterday, while the mid-cap FTSE 250 index was up 0.2 percent at 10:05 a.m. GMT.

The Labour Party in Great Britain has convincingly won the early parliamentary elections, securing a majority of 170 seats in the House of Commons. This victory means Sir Keir Starmer is set to become prime minister with 410 Labour MPs, a number close to Tony Blair's win in 1997. Starmer is expected to meet King Charles III at noon to form a government.
