Archaeologists oppose highway project in southern Türkiye
The route of the highway project planned in the western districts of Antalya, Kaş and Demre, have caused controversy. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report of the highway project, which is to affect historical and natural areas such as Kekova, Myra, and Andriake Kaputaş Canyon rock tombs, states that more than 66,000 trees on the route will be cut down.

The Kekova region, or Sunken City, which has remained under the sea after two major earthquakes in the sixth century in the Mediterranean, is a frequent destination for hundreds of local and foreign tourists every year.

Two caves chained to protect monk seals
In order to minimize disturbance by tourist boats during the summer, the entrances to two underwater caves where seals reside in the Kaş and Demre districts of the southern province of Antalya have been blocked off with iron chains.

16th Kastellorizo-Kaş Swim Event to be held at weekend
Some 350 athletes from 16 countries will strike out in the 16th Kastellorizo-Kaş Open Water Swim Event, also known as "one race in two countries."
The seven-kilometer race will start on June 26 at 9 a.m. from Kastellorizo and end in the southern province of Antalya's Kaş district.
Couple goes for 5-year round-the-world tour
A couple has set sail for a five-year round-the-world tour on their yacht with a special ceremony in the southern province of Antalya.
"This was my childhood dream," Sezgin Tekin, a 63-year-old lawyer, told İhlas News Agency on June 16, just before the departure.
His wife, Betül Tekin, a 59-year-old retired teacher, will accompany him on this journey.

Holiday resort town ‘proud’ for being spotted from space
The Demre district of the Mediterranean province of Antalya was seen in a photograph taken from space for the first time.
SpaceX's spacecraft Crew Dragon interlocked with the International Space Base 19 hours after its launch into space on May 30.
In the first photo sent from the space base, Kekova, a prominent holiday spot in Demre was also seen.
British FM Boris Johnson 'secretly' arrives at Turkish resort in Göcek for family vacation
British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and his family came to Turkey on holiday last week. Johnson, his wife, and his four children secretly landed at the Dalaman airport and arrived at the Turkish resort in Muğla's Göcek via a gulet sailboat.
Johnson and his family visited the bays of Göcek, Dalyan, and Fethiye during the week and took a swim in the various Aegean bays.
Sunken city in Kekova may open to diving
Work has been initiated to remove the diving ban in Kekova to allow restricted diving. Kekova is one of the world's most important diving spots in the southern province of Antalya's Demre district and is home to an underwater ancient city.

Don't do this in Turkey's protected areas
One of the missions of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is to ensure that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable. Biodiversity research that the WWF conducted in Turkey in 2002 in Antalya-Patara revealed that the Ka? district on the Mediterranean has special significance.
