Kick scooters

After the footage of an e-scooter overtaking other vehicles at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour on the D-100 Highway in Istanbul's Kadıköy district went viral on social media, concerns about scooter speed limits have resurfaced.

The Transportation Coordination Directorate (UKOME) has implemented a decision to reduce the speed limit for scooters to 12.5 km/h in certain districts.

Ljubljana – Electric scooters are becoming increasingly popular as a mode of urban transportation, but accelerated uptake has resulted in a rise in accidents. Last year there were 109 accidents involving e-scooters, more than two-thirds caused by riders themselves, police data show.

The average age of people using e-scooters in Turkey is 27, with the number of riders growing by the day, Kadir Can Abdik, the CEO of BinBin Scooters, has said.

"From 17 to 65, people [of all ages] ride e-scooters. The average age is 27 because it is a very new business sector," Abdik of BinBin, one of the 12 companies operating in Istanbul, told state-run Anadolu Agency on Nov. 22.

Ljubljana – Dnevnik welcomes in Thursday’s commentary new rules which regulate the use of electric scooters, hoping riders will embrace them to improve safety in Slovenian streets. The newspaper says that better road safety starts with all traffic participants becoming aware of the new rules and complying with them.

The scooter was designed and made in Athens

Municipal police in the northern port city of Thessaloniki conducted an operation on Wednesday to remove electric scooters from several parts of the seafront which are not allowed to circulate, as part of the measures introduced to battle the coronavirus.

The city police collected 59 scooters belonging to a private rental company.
