Iran announced on June 27 that weavers in the southern province of Fars had produced the world's largest kilim rug, measuring an enormous 105 square meters (more than 1,100 square feet).

Najet unravels an old pair of jeans, raw material for a designer carpet: traditional, eco-friendly crafts are being adapted for new markets thanks to a project born in the Tunisian desert.

"I learned to weave at a young age, from my mother," said the 52-year-old from the oasis town of Nefta, 500 kilometers south of Tunis.

Anna Laudel Contemporary in Istanbul opened a solo exhibition entitled "Un-Weave" on April 26 by the acclaimed artist Belkıs Balpınar, who has pioneered the art of weaving in Turkey and is considered to be one of the most inventive practitioners of the "kilim" art medium within and beyond Turkey's borders.

Kilims and ceramic trinkets produced by Turkish and Syrian women who attend courses in the Family Support Center in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa's Harran district are now being sold in Europe, providing income to locals. 

The Baksı Museum, established in the Bayraktar village of the northeastern province of Bayburt and the recipient of the 2014 European Council Museum Award, will host an extraordinary personal exhibition in 2017 from its founder, Professor Hüsamettin Koçan. 

The Brussels Flower Carpet opened on Aug. 14 at the Grand-Place in the center of Brussels, this year celebrating the 50th anniversary of Turkish immigration in Belgium.
