Saudi king's pilot son named US envoy

Saudi Arabia has named an air force pilot son of King Salman as ambassador to its major ally Washington, with which ties are improving under President Donald Trump.

The change came among a series of orders issued by the king, who shuffled his cabinet, restored civil service benefits, and replaced the head of the army which for two years has been fighting rebels  n neighboring Yemen.

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis met Saudi King Salman on Aprl 19, beginning a series of talks to reinvigorate the Riyadh-Washington alliance in the face of common adversary Iran. The retired four-star Marine general, accompanied by a U.S. delegation, was welcomed by Salman at Al-Yamama Palace in Riyadh, telling the monarch: "It's good to be back."

Turkish-Saudi alliance in place

On Feb 28, 2015, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an became one of the first regional leaders to visit Riyadh to hold extensive talks with Saudi Arabia's new leader, King Salman, who was crowned in January of that year. Since then, the relationship between the two countries has shown a steady progress through consecutive high-level talks.
