Search and rescue operation underway for overboard ferry passenger
A search and rescue operation got underway southeast of Hydra to find a ferry passenger who fell into the sea in unclear circumstances.
The coast guard operation is focused on an area 18 nautical miles southeast of the island.
A fellow passenger on the "Kissamos," which was en route from Hania in Crete to Piraeus, raised the alert.

Toddler in critical but stable condition after being run over by father
A toddler in Crete who was seriously injured when her father accidentally run her over with his car while pulling out of the garage is in "critical but stable condition," the hospital where she is being treated said Thursday.
Big seaplane plans for Crete
Greek Water Airports announced on Wednesday it has applied for the creation of a water aerodrome at Agia Galini in the prefecture of Rethymno in southern Crete.
It also said that the Port Fund of Hania has submitted an application for the creation of a water aerodrome at the port of Kissamos, selecting Greek Water Airports as the contractor.

70 migrants detained off Greek island of Crete
Authorities on Greece's island of Crete say 70 migrants have been removed from a yacht and detained after entering Greek waters.
The migrants, including 20 children, were being taken Tuesday in three coast guard vessels to the port of Kissamos, on the western part of the island, officials from the Merchant Marine Ministry said.

Kissamos cell death being probed
Police in Hania, Crete, were on Friday investigating the death of a 54-year-old Albanian national who was found hanged in a cell in the Kissamos police precinct.
The 54-year-old used a piece of his blanket to hang himself from the cell bars.
He had been detained earlier this week on charges of illegal residence and had been facing deportation.

Police in Crete investigating deadly stabbing of older couple
Police in Crete on Tuesday were investigating the deaths of a man, aged 78, and his 66-year-old wife, whose bodies were found by their son in their home in the village of Sfinario in Kissamos earlier in the day.
The couple had been stabbed ? the woman in the back and the man in the stomach ? according to a coroner who said they most probably died on Sunday evening.
Charred body found in burnt car on Crete
Police on Crete were seeking to determine on Wednesday the exact cause of death of a man aged around 60 whose charred remains were found in his car near the coastal port of Kissamos in the islands northwest late on Tuesday.
Police and a local coroner both ruled out foul play in connection with the death of the man whose body was found hanging out of the drivers door of the vehicle.
