The paramount leader of the Bosnian Serbs, Milorad Dodik, says he is ready to move the case of a murdered 21-year-old student - who was killed in March last year and whose death has not been resolved - from the district attorney's office to the state prosecutor's office in Bosnia.

"In this country, no one will ever impose anything on anyone. When it comes to Serbs and Republika Srpska, if they do not want to join NATO - they will not go to NATO", Izetbegovic said for RTRS political magazine "Pecat" last night.

Speakers at the US Senate's subcommittee on Europe and regional-security cooperation on Wednesday blamed Bosnian Serb supremo Milorad Dodik for the current stalemate in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was preventing the formation of a new state government and blocking the NATO integration process.

He reacted to the interview that former Austrian Chancellor had given to Tanjug News Agency.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has issued a protest note about recent comments made by the Serb member of Bosnia's state presidency in support of Russia's annexation of Crimea.

Earlier this week, Milorad Dodik stated in his interview to Russkiy reporter that he "considers Crimea to be Russian", and that Bosnian recognition of this unilateral annexation was "necessary".

Turbulence Ahead

The deep summer season is not yet over, but with Presidential elections due in November in Romania, political life is heating up. With the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) having quit the Social Democratic Party (PSD) led government, the PSD now finds itself without an absolute majority in Parliament.

An extraordinary session of the Bosnian presidency intended to finally form a new state-level government, known as the Council of Ministers, was cancelled on Tuesday as the country's political crisis deepened further.

What followed was a maelstrom of confusion: Dodik and the SNSD explicitly claimed to have buried the matter, while the Bosniak nationalist Party of Democratic Action, SDA, vacillated.

Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik has threatened to torpedo a number of major achieved reforms in the country, including the formation of joint armed forces and a state court and police agency, unless a state-level government is formed soon.

Breakthrough?

In a move that surprised many, Bosnia's three most powerful political leaders - Bakir Izetbegovic, Milorad Dodik and Dragan Covic - announced a landmark deal to form a government at the central state level. The announcement comes ten months after elections were held.
