Sorin Cîmpeanu will be Romania's new interim PM after Victor Ponta stepped down on Wednesday, state-run Agerpres agency has said.
President Klaus Iohannis on Thursday appointed Cîmpeanu, who until now was Ministry of Education.
Ponta stepped down on Wednesday morning after a deadly incident at a Bucharest nightclub triggered mass street protests against his government.
Romanians Protest Again over Nightclub Fire
At least 30 000 people took to the streets of Romanian cities again on Wednesday, hours after the resignation of Prime Minister Victor Ponta's government.
Demonstrators blamed the incident at the Collectiv club in Bucharest which killed 32 people and injured hundreds last week.

Central, Eastern European Leaders to Hold NATO Summit in Bucharest
Heads of State of NATO member countries from Central and Eastern Europe will convene at a summit at the Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest on Wednesday.
Bulgaria will be represented by President Rosen Plevneliev, who is on an official visit to Bucharest for participation in the summit, the press service of the presidency informs.
NATO Pushed to Deploy More Forces in East
Nine countries from Central and Eastern Europe are to use a NATO pre-summit meeting in Bucharest, Romania, to deliver a common message on the need to strengthen the eastern border of the Alliance.
The summit, which starts on November 4, will be co-chaired by NATO's Deputy Secretary General, Alexander Vershbow, Romania's President, Klaus Iohannis, and Poland's President, Andrzej Duda.

Number of Casualties in Bucharest Nightclub Fire Rises
The number of victims affected by the explosion and fire, which engulfed a nightclub in the Romanian capital of Bucharest on Friday, has risen.
According to the latest reports, the fire claimed the lives of 27 people, another 184 were transported to hospital for treatment, while 146 remain admitted for further treatment, AGERPRES news agency informs.
