Large parts of northern and central Slovenia were inundated on 4 August as a huge weather system dumped up to 200 millimetres of rain in just 24 hours, leading to the worst flooding Slovenia has seen in decades.

Over 1,000 additional beds to be available in care homes
Ljubljana – The Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs has secured a total 1,107 additional places in care homes all over the country, as EUR 65 million was allocated towards that goal. Almost a third of the newly available places will open in the region of Gorenjska in the north-west, the ministry said on Tuesday.
Škofja Loka Passion Play declared best production at drama festival
Kranj – Škofja Loka Passion Play staged by the Prešeren Theatre Kranj and directed by Jernej Lorenci received the Šeligo Prize for the best production at the 51st Week of Slovenian Drama, while also receiving the audience’s choice award and the awards for actors, as the festival concluded in Kranj on Saturday evening.
Škofja Loka unveils plaque to mark 300 years of its passion play
Škofja Loka – Marking the 300th anniversary of the Škofja Loka Passion Play, Slovenia’s oldest completely preserved play, a plaque was unveiled in the northern medieval town of Škofja Loka on Monday.
The plaque, laid in the pavement of the town’s City Square, where the play is performed every few years, is based on the work’s spiritual, theatre, religious and educational roles.
Google to update street view of Slovenia
Ljubljana – US tech giant Google will update its Street View service for Slovenia, starting on 8 April, said the Information Commissioner on Friday. Slovenia was first included in the application in 2014.

Three centuries of the Škofja Loka Passion Play
Škofja Loka – The Škofja Loka Passion Play, Slovenia’s oldest play, was staged in the town of Škofja Loka on Good Friday exactly 300 years ago. Passion processions had been held in town before and the play was in the making for years, but the preserved manuscript is dated 1721.

Slovenia's Oblak extended by Atletico Madrid until 2023

Passion play's UNESCO listing "an honour and responsibility"
The Passion of Škofja Loka is considered one of the oldest continually staged procession plays in Europe, boasting a tradition of nearly 300 years.
The original text was written between 1715 and 1727 by Capuchin monk Lovrenc Marusic (1676-1748). It holds the record for the oldest completely preserved theatre play in the Slovenian language with some passages in Latin and German.
