A mother bear and her two cubs have been shot dead near Konitsa in Greece's Epirus region. The incident was reported to Arcturos, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of the brown bear, on Sunday after the lifeless bodies were discovered alongside the road connecting the cities of Ioannina and Kozani.

Missing British hiker, 26, found dead in northwestern Greece

The body of a British hiker who had been reported missing last Sunday was found late Wednesday in a gorge near Astraka peak in the Zagoria region of northwestern Greece.

Robert Fromer, 26, was reported missing by his father after not returning to his hotel in Konitsa. His car was found in the village Mikro Papigo on Monday evening.

An investigation is under way into his death.

A 60-year-old man from Karditsa, central Greece, trapped a cat in a home-made cage in the yard of his home before spearing it with a harpoon, according to local reports.

According to Thessaliatv.gr, Ermioni Gianakkou, a representative of the animal rights groups Diasozo (I save) visited the scene of the attack and said the cat had been speared through the stomach.
