Lawyers indicted in prison 'mafia' case released on conditions
Prominent criminal lawyers Alexandros Lykourezos and Theodoros Panagopoulos who were arrested last Friday over their alleged involvement in the so-called Korydallos prison "mafia," were released on bail on Monday evening, after their marathon statements to a prosecutor and an investigative magistrate.

A prosecutor and an investigative magistrate are to decide on Monday night whether to remand or conditionally release prominent Athens lawyer Alexandros Lykourezos and fellow attorney and close associate Theodoros Panagopoulos, who were arrested last Friday over their alleged involvement in the so-called so-called Korydallos prison "mafia."
Prominent Athens lawyer Lykourezos testifies over prison gang
The prominent Athens lawyer Alexandros Lykourezos was testifying before an investigating magistrate on Monday in relation to the Korydallos prison "mafia" that he is supposedly implicated in.
The 85-year-old lawyer was transferred to the Athens appeals court complex under police guard from the Athens police headquarters where he was in custody over the weekend.

An internal probe was launched on Wednesday at Attica's high-security Korydallos Prison following the death of a 48-year-old inmate in his cell.
The Greek prisoner, who was serving a life sentence for murder, is believed to have died of a heart attack, according to prison medics, though a coroner was to rule on the exact cause of death.
