Kosovan parliamentary election

Kosovo Parliament Approves Ramush Haradinaj As New Prime Minister

The parliament of Kosovo has approved Ramush Haradinaj as new prime minister. The 120-seat parliament endorsed Haradinaj's appointment on September 9 with 61 votes in favor and one abstention. Opposition members boycotted the vote.

The parliament also approved Haradinaj's cabinet, with the main ethnic Serb party, Sprska Lista, backing the new prime minister.

Kosovo Assembly Ends Deadlock by Electing Speaker

Kosovo's parliament finally elected Kadri Veseli as its new speaker on Thursday, one day after leaders of the new PAN government coalition - Veseli of the PDK, Ramush Haradinaj of the AAK, Fatmir Limaj of NISMA and Behgjet Pacolli of the AKR - reached an agreement with the main Kosovo Serb party, Lista Srpska.

Pacolli Dumps LDK Alliance to End Kosovo Deadlock

Following a crunch meeting with Isa Mustafa, acting Prime Minister and leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, LDK, Kosovo New Alliance chief Behgjet Pacolli announced that his party's alliance with the LDK was now over.

"We have concluded all the contractual obligations we have had with LDK. Our ways now are parted," Pacolli told journalists.

Why Kosovo's Serbs Cannot Become Political Kingmakers

Their formal importance stems from Kosovo's constitutional and legal system, which guarantees their representation through reserved seats in parliament and the cabinet.

Functionally, however, this power is trivial, owing to the lack of legitimacy of the Serbs' elected representatives, plus the lack of any clear idea about what constitutes the Serbian interest in the country.

And again … Fifth attempt to elect Kosovo Assembly speaker fails

This pre-election coalition is now seeking a new postponement - "not more than 14 days" - in order to secure a majority.
