Kosovo Prosecution to Contest Ex-PM’s Acquittal in War Veterans Case

The Kosovo state prosecution told BIRN on Wednesday that it will appeal against Pristina Basic Court's verdict acquitting ex-premier Agim Ceku and 11 co-defendants of abusing their official positions to add people to a government-approved list of Kosovo Liberation Army, KLA war veterans eligible for benefits.

His mother Sahide, who was 61 at the time, tried to get to her husband's cousins' house, but she was shot as she walked up the road. Wounded, she remained in the street for almost an hour.

"Some people who were hiding in the basement of a house saw her sitting on the roadside after being shot. It isn't known where she was shot, they only saw she was bleeding," Hasan Metushi said.

The report looks at over 60 countries, among them Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, Hungary and Poland.

The plea was entered in accordance with court's regulations after Haradinaj did not appear in court.

Haradinaj's lawyer told the court that his client did not want to take part in the hearing "as a protest about the way he has been treated".

Kosovo Veterans’ Deputy Leader Blames Hague Court for File Leak

The deputy leader of Kosovo Liberation Army War Veterans' Organisation, Nasim Haradinaj, who is accused of obstructing justice and intimidating witnesses, declined to enter a plea at his initial appearance at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague in Friday.

"In regards to my plea, my lawyer will speak on my behalf," Nasim Haradinaj told the pre-trial judge, Nicolas Guillou.
