Despite tax measures, short-term rentals proliferate in Athens
Changes in the tax framework for the short-term rental market have not deterred property owners, as the number of units in the center of Athens is constantly rising.
According to AirDNA, 18.5% more properties operated as short-term rental accommodation in the center of Athens in the year's first quarter, reaching 12,762, even though these months show the lowest demand.
Demolitions of interwar buildings altering city character
The demolition of one- and two-story historical houses from the interwar period in Athens' old districts, such as Agios Nikolaos Street in Koukaki, in the center of the capital, is taking on worrying proportions. The reason is the possibility provided by new building regulations allowing greater heights and covering plots in narrow streets.

Group calls for halt on new hotels in Acropolis area

Crackdown on spread of chairs and tables in public spaces
Seeking to send a message to proprietors encroaching on public space with illegally placed chairs and tables, the Municipality of Athens has already singled out 10 catering establishments that have repeatedly failed to comply with the rules and is initiating procedures for their temporary closure for a period of 1-5 days, implementing recently passed relevant legislation.
