A van suspected of smuggling migrants in Kozani, northern Greece, crashed during a police chase in the early hours of Friday, with preliminary reports saying that one passenger was killed and 10 injured.

Greece still in the grip of cold weather
Bad weather has a lot of Greece under its grip, with snowfall and below freezing temperatures.
In the Athens area, mostly in the northern parts, some roads are closed, police warn.
These include: the road to Mt. Parnitha, the Alimou-Katechaki road, Anapafseos Street, in the suburb of Papagou, beyond the cemetery and Fylis and Tatoiou Avenues, northwest of Athens.

First signs of Leandros appear

There are 11 areas in Greece close to "red alert" status due to the rising rate of coronavirus infections and the government is considering tighter local lockdowns, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said Wednesday.
Apart from the Western Attica regional unit, all others are in central and northern Greece.

Hail, snow fall over mainland
A wet front swept across much of the country on Wednesday, bringing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to many parts including Volos and much of Magnesia.
Volos was particularly hard hit with three hours of torrential rain in the morning that flooded streets and squares.
