Bulgaria's PM: We Need EU Commissioner for Ecology or Regional Development

"We need a European Commissioner for ecology or regional development. In these two sectors, Bulgaria has the greatest need and we will attempt to win," stated Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov when answering the question who will replace Kristalina Georgieva.

President 'Not Bulgaria's EU Commissioner Nominee'

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev will not be the country's nomination for European Commissioner, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has said.

Borisov is yet to make clear who will be proposed as a successor to Kristalina Georgieva, the Bulgarian EU Commissioner who on Friday said she would leave in January to take over a CEO position at the World Bank Group.

EU Commission Vice President Kristalina Georgieva has said she is leaving the EU's executive body the take up a senior position at the World Bank.

The development is due to take effect as of January 02, 2017, Georgieva has said in a statement.

Her new appointment means Bulgaria will have to propose a successor.

EU Commission Denies Claims about VP Georgieva's Past

The European Commission has fully rejected claims in an investigation which recently claimed she had been an informant for Soviet-era State Security (DS) in Bulgaria.

The text, published by Republicans-linked Foreign Policy Research Institute, also alleged her family ties led to Multigrup, a once powerful and notorious conglomerate.

The Guardian: Bokova To Become UN Deputy Secretary General

After being unsuccessful in the round of voting, Irina Bokova is on the way of becoming Deputy Secretary General of the UN, reported The Guardian, cited by Nova TV and Darik radio.

"It is claimed that the Russians are furious that, under pressure from the European Union, Bulgaria nominated another candidate - European Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva," writes the newspaper.
