Turkish military responds to PKK attacks: TSK

The outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) targeted a military base with two mortar attacks in southeastern Turkey, the Turkish general staff said in a statement on June 7.

The PKK attacked the Da?l?ca military base close to the Iraqi border in Hakkari province at around 12.35 p.m. local time (10.35 GMT) on June 6, the statement said, adding that there were no casualties.

400,000 security forces on duty for Turkey's election day

The Turkish government maintains security during the June 7 general elections with a total of 404,000 security personnel.

Some 300,000 police officers will be on duty throughout the day, Interior Minister Sebahattin Öztürk said on June 5 in a televised interview, adding that the rest of the personnel will be gendarmerie.
