Turks celebrate New Year with various events across country

Citizens in many parts of the country, especially in Istanbul, the capital Ankara and western province of İzmir, have welcomed the new year with various events, while a group of people in the southern province of Antalya celebrated the arrival of the new year by entering the sea at a temperature of 10 degrees.

Suspect who threatened Hrant Dink Foundation arrested

A suspect who sent a death threat to the Hrant Dink Foundation has been arrested, according to local media reports.

The suspect, identified only by the initials H.A., was detained on May 30.

Turkey's interior ministry on May 30 said that H.A. and an assailant who ripped off a cross outside an Armenian church in Istanbul were detained.

Attacker tears down cross at Armenian church in Istanbul

An unidentified attacker has dismantled a cross outside an Armenian church in Istanbul's historical Kuzguncuk neighborhood.
Security footage delivered to the police showed the attack occurred on May 23 in the Üsküdar district, according to a statement made by the Surp Krikor Lusaroviç Armenian Church.

Hollywood star visits historic Grand Bazaar

Academy Award-winning Hollywood star Michael Douglas visited Istanbul's historic Grand Bazaar on Jan. 5.

The 75-year-old actor was accompanied by his children Dylan, 19, and Carys, 16, during the Istanbul tour.

The Hollywood couple, award-wining actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Douglas are in Istanbul to celebrate their 20th anniversary of marriage.

Armenian church in Istanbul hit by storm awaits permission to get repaired

Kuzguncuk was a multicultural neighborhood in Istanbul's Üsküdar up until the 1960s. The alleys are still full of old Rum houses and are home to two big Armenian churches, a GreekOrthodox church and several Jewish synagogues spread around the quarter. But the Surp Krikor Lusavoriç Armenian Church, on the main street by the Bosphorus, is having a hard time these days.
