Thursday is the last day you can catch the first Athens solo show of Azeri photographer Aydin Sadikhov at the Blank Wall Gallery, which is aimed at acquainting viewers with Baku's architectural heritage, where the traditional and historic - including several buildings on the UNESCO World Heritage List - harmoniously coexist with the modern.

Zalman Shklyar | Athens | To March 15
Moscow-based street photographer Zalman Shklyar presents "Color Rendering," a collection of candid shots meant to portray the ephemeral quality of life in the city, at the Blank Wall Gallery in Kypseli. The show runs through Thursday, March 15, and opening hours are Tuesdays to Fridays from 4.30 to 9.30 p.m. and Saturdays from 11.30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Monochrome | Athens | To March 8
More than 100 artists from around the world are participating in the exhibition "Monochrome," which is aimed at highlighting the challenge of depicting reality in black and white or the shades of just one color. The show runs at the Blank Wall Gallery through March 8. Opening hours are Tuesdays to Fridays from 4.30 to 9.30 p.m. and Saturdays from 11.30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Anarchists target butcher shops in central Athens
Police in Athens said on Friday that they are looking for members of anti-establishment groups that went on a rampage on Wednesday, damaging two butcher shops in the central district of Kypseli to protest against the slaughter of animals on the occasion of Tsiknopempti - the Thursday 11 days before the beginning of Lent when Greeks traditionally gather to eat grilled meat.

Grassroots drive for Kypseli metro station bears fruit
A community initiative launched in the Athens district of Kypseli several years ago to improve public transportation in one of the capital's most densely populated neighborhoods is bearing fruit after the company responsible for the Athens metro agreed to add a new station.
Athens drug gang netted by police
Police said on Thursday they had unraveled a criminal gang that sold drugs in central Athens and western Attica and arrested four people.
In sweeps at Karaiskaki Square, Aghios Panteleimonas, Pangrati and Kypseli, police nabbed two Albanian nationals, 43 and 49, and two Greeks, both aged 57.
Reports said the 49-year-old Albanian suspect was the ringleader.

Hair | Athens | November 15-19
Celebrating the 50-year anniversary since its off-Broadway debut, "Hair" will be performed at the Chora theater for the first time in Greece in Greek. Premiering on November 15, the "American tribal love-rock musical" features some leading Greek singing talent and will run for a limited number of shows until November 19. It is rated PG 13 due to explicit content.

The kiosk, an urban Greek mainstay since 1911
In April of this year, Ukraine-born artist, musician and dancer Anton Kats raised the curtain on Documenta 14 in Athens with his "A-Letheia" project, in which he turned abandoned street kiosks in the downtown areas of Psyrri and Kypseli into interactive installations.
