In celebration of the centenary of the birth of Greek composer, pianist and teacher Rena Kyriakou, the Athens Concert Hall introduces two lesser-known but equally important female composers - Mario Foscarina Damaschino (1850-1921) and Eleni Lambiri (1889-1960) - in a concert with the Athens Philharmonic, conducted by Byron Fidetzis, and pianist Giorgos Constantinou. Tickets cost 8-25 euros.

Suspicious package found outside US Ambassador home in Athens (photos)

Greek police have cordoned off the residence around US Ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey Pyatt after a suspicious package was reportedly found near a rubbish bin opposite the diplomat’s house. Mrs. Pyatt lives on Panagi Kyriakou street on Elena Venizelou square near the maternity hospital in Athens. A special bomb disposal unit has arrived on the scene to investigate the package.

'Suspicious' parcel spotted near US ambassador's home

The Greek Police's bomb disposal unit has been dispatched to US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt's private residence in Athens after a 'suspicious' parcel was found near the premises.

Guards called the experts after spotting a box wrapped in gift paper at 4.30 p.m. on Friday on the corner of Kyriakou Street and Elena Venizelou Square in the suburb of Ambelokipi.

Antenna Group owner Minos Kyriakou passes away

Minos Kyriakou, the founder and owner of the Greek company Antenna Group, which includes TV Prva, TV B92 and Play Radio, has died suddenly at the age of 75.

"It is with deep sorrow that we are were saying goodbye to our beloved Minos, who passed away suddenly, from a heart attack, late in the afternoon," the Kyriakou family announced.

Former Greek Olympic Committee President Minos Kyriakou dies

Greek media mogul and shipowner Minos Kyriakou, a former president of the country’s Olympic Committee, has died. He was 75.

Kyriakou died Sunday of a heart attack, the private Athens Medical Center said.

Kyriakou was born on May 31, 1942 in Poros, Greece. He began his career as a ship owner in the mid-1960s and remained involved in the sector.

London designer builds on the ruins of Greek textile industry

Londoner Eleni Kyriacou, aged 34, did the opposite to what most young people are doing, and moved ot Greece in the midst of the debt crisis that shrank the country’s economy by a quarter leaving millions out of work. A fashion designer, she came at a time when the once thriving textile industry was systematically shattered.
