Lake Salda

A U.S. team, including a Turkish scientist, has reached the second phase of its work in Lake Salda, which has a carbon structure similar to Mars, in search of traces of possible life on Mars.

Mars studies, which began in Lake Salda in the southern province of Burdur towards the end of 2019, continue with new questions from scientists.

Turkish Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum has said that thanks to the precautions the ministry has taken, the water of Lake Salda has reached the level of being drinkable.

Excavation works with ladles to build a water tank on the beach of a famous lake, which has been dubbed "Turkey's Maldives" for its white sand and clear water, have sparked fury, prompting action from local authorities.

Two divers in Turkey descended into the pristine waters of Lake Salda on Sept. 1 as part of scientific research into the ecosystem of its depths that could uncover key data on early microbial life.

Authorities have fined five people for vandalizing the famous Lake Salda in the province of Burdur.

Dubbed as "Turkey's Maldives" due to its white beach and clear waters, the lake attracted large crowds during the Eid al-Adha holiday.

NASA has posted a night image of Istanbul taken from the International Space Station (ISS) on social media, with a message saying, "Hey Istanbul, you are glowing."

The image was captured by the International Space Station on May 10 as it orbited 263 miles (around 423 kilometers) above the Black Sea, NASA said in a post on Instagram.

A plan to organize a fashion show in Lake Salda, dubbed "Turkey's Maldives" due to its bright azure waters and white sands, has stirred controversy, daily Hürriyet reported on March 23.

Within the scope of measures taken by the Environment and Urbanization Ministry to protect Lake Salda in the southwestern province of Burdur, a limited number of people will be allowed to visit the lake's protected White Islands area, where 1.5 million people visit annually.

Turkish authorities have restricted road traffic and construction around Lake Salda, which is also known as Turkey's Maldives due to its crystal clear water. 

Lake Salda has been declared a 'Special Environmental Protection Area', with its size increased six-fold, the Environment and Urbanization Ministry said on Aug. 1.
