Influential Greek daily out again after court ruling

Greece's influential center-left Ta Nea newspaper has resumed publication five days after running out of newsprint due to its parent Lambrakis Press's acute financial problems.

The daily reappeared on newsstands Tuesday, the Associated Press reported, a day after an Athens court agreed to unfreeze one of the group's bank accounts to cover publication costs.

Publication of Ta Nea and To Vima newspapers ends, says media group

The Lambrakis Press Group (DOL) announced on Saturday that after a failure to reach an agreement with its lenders, the publication of Ta Nea and To Vima newspapers will cease immediately.

The statement published on DOL's website said that Eurobank, Alpha, Piraeus and National banks had refused to extend any more credit to the group and would, instead, place it under administration.

Mixed legacy

Although it would be premature to draw a balanced and objective conclusion about his legacy, Christos Lambrakis certainly played a defining role in Greek history for almost half a century.
