Torches land fans in dock

Six AEK Athens soccer fans have until Wednesday to prepare their pleas after their arrest on Sunday for lighting two torches on the roof of an apartment building next to the Athanasios Diakos Stadium in Lamia, central Greece, where their team went head to head with the local side. They were granted conditional release on Monday. 

Infrastructure Min hails progress on E65 highway construction

Progress in construction work for the Central Greece Motorway (E65), connecting Macedonia with southern Greece through western Thessaly and Fthiotida in Central Greece, is "excellent," Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras said on Monday, during an on-site inspection. 

Extra state funding for buses and coaches

An extra budget of 18.3 million euros for Greece's urban buses and intercity coaches (KTEL) was announced by Transport and Infrastructure Minister Christos Staikouras on Friday.

This sizable subsidy also concerns local coach operators in the country's remote regions, he added, speaking at the 29th KTEL annual convention in the city of Lamia, central Greece.

KKE secretary-general Koutsoumpas votes in Lamia

Greek Communist Party secretary-general Dimitris Koutsoumpas voted in Lamia on Sunday and called on Greek voters to give his party a strong mandate.

"Until voting stations close tonight we must all be there to make the Greek Communist Party strong and take it higher, as this is the only way to have a strong, popular, combative opposition," he said.
