A high-profile scandal rocks Ukraine's political landscape as Mykola Solskyi, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food and former Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, faces allegations of involvement in an organized criminal group orchestrating the illicit seizure of state lands.

The National Property Registry, also known as the Cadastre, has taken over 30 years to be prepared. Now, the government says it is confident that the project will be completed by 2026. 

The long delay in connecting the land registry with the tax office has created a distorted picture, as the tax office does not know who exactly owns each property or its actual square footage.

The notaries of Athens and Thessaloniki are threatening to block the real estate market after announcing strike action beginning on November 20 in response to the way in which the digitization of notarial acts is proceeding.

People wishing to make a transaction with the Athens Land Registry will now have to use a platform introduced by the Digital Policy Ministry in order to issue a priority number. Transaction makers will receive a priority number on their mobile phone and will be able to monitor the progress of the waiting period on the platform to plan their visit to the service. 

The inexcusable hardship that citizens face at National Cadastre offices has its roots in the very beginning of the Greek state, in its inability to draw up a registry since then in the face of strong resistance, a weak central administration and general indifference. Now Greece is trying - in a few years - to impose order on 200 years of chaos.

The government aims to make the transfer of real estate a fully digital process, Deputy Digital Governance Minister Konstantinos Kyranakis has said.

The Hellenic Cadaster is now entering the digital era after 15 years of efforts to this end, starting with the municipalities of Athens, Galatsi and Moschato. The Cadaster Office will close on Thursday and Friday to complete the changeover and reopen on July 3.

The Council of Ministers approved a draft Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Cadastre and Land Registry. It provides for the provision of full digitization of the property register maintained by the Registration Agency, by creating electronic batches of real estate and electronic batch files with the registered acts and the documents attached to them.
