Two dead in car crash in central Greece

Two people died when the car they were in veered off its course and crashed into a street light on the Agia-Larisa highway, in central Greece, early Sunday morning.
According to local news website larissanet.gr, it took more than one hour for the firefighters to to cut through metal sheets and pull out the two dead passengers, a 19-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man.

PAOK's title party gets postponed

Infant's death in Tyrnavos attributed to respiratory infection

A forensic examination of the body of a 4-month-old baby which died on February 21 in the town of Tyrnavos, central Greece, attributed the infant's death to a respiratory infection, the state-run Athens-Macedonian News Agency reported.
Coroners ran tests on tissue samples and blood samples were sent to the National Meningitis Center to determine the cause of death.

Greek farmers end road blocks, for now

Farmers ended their road blocks on Greek national highways on Saturday even though talks with government officials failed to yield a compromise.

Farmers had set up some 23 road blocks across the country for three weeks demanding tax breaks and lower production costs.

Speaking on Friday, the union representing farmers described the government as "hostile."

Greek farmers blocked the Serres-Thessaloniki route with tractors and announced that the blockade would be indefinite. Drivers are forced to use bypass routes. The number of dissatisfied farmers on the Thessaloniki-Athens highway to Larissa is growing, the BNR reports.
