Cretan beaches swarming with illegal structures
An attempt is under way on Crete to get the bulldozers back to work as the two-year suspension of demolitions on the island has led to an increase in illegal structures erected on its beaches.
Indicatively, 154 demolition protocols are pending in Iraklio, 130 in Lasithi, 80 in Hania and six in Rethymno.

Mitsotakis to tour Crete on Tuesday
New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis will tour the regional units of Lasithi and Iraklio, in Crete, on Tuesday.
At noon, he will visit Sitia, Makris Yalos, Ierapetra and Agios Nikolaos, before visiting Moschos.
At 8 p.m., he will address an open event at Agios Titos square in Iraklio. [AMNA]

Pummelled by rain, Lasithi Plateau floods for fifth time
Authorities in eastern Crete closed the Lasithi Plateau to traffic to prevent accidents after the area flooded following four days of intense rainfall, local mayor Giannis Stefanakis told state-run news agency ANA on Thursday.

British woman reported missing in Crete found safe
A 37-year-old British woman who had been reported missing on Crete early last week is alive and well, local reports said on Wednesday.
Catherine Mowatt, who had been last seen in the area of Sisi in Lasithi prefecture, was found in the resort of Malia.

Search under way for Briton in Crete
Authorities have stepped a search for a 37-year-old British woman who went missing on Crete early last week.
The woman, who has been identified as Catherine Mowatt, was last seen in the area of Sisi in the prefecture of Lasithi.

State of emergency in Lasithi after heavy rainfall
General Secretary for Civil Protection Yiannis Tafyllis on Wednesday declared a state of emergency in the municipality of Oropedio in the Cretan prefecture of Lasithi due to damage from heavy rainfall over the past few days.
The bad weather has wreaked serious damage to roads, homes, businesses and particularly to crops.

Rain causes damage in Crete, power cuts in Attica
Heavy rainfall early on Saturday led to roads and bridges flooding in the Cretan prefecture of Iraklio. In Lasithi meanwhile, floodwater trapped several people in their homes, taxing the EMAK rescue services and regional firefighting services who received numerous calls.

No injuries after tourist bus catches fire in Crete
Firefighters have extinguished a fire that broke out in the engine on a bus carrying Italian tourists in Crete.
Local media report that all passengers were safely evacuated from the vehicle, which was destroyed in the blaze.
The alarm was sounded shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday as the bus was approaching the small town of Neapoli, in Lasithi prefecture.
