A report by Equality Now revealed some shocking findings regarding rape laws in different countries across the world. In Greece, Serbia, Thailand and Russia sexual offenders may be legally exempt from punishment under certain conditions, for example of the victim is deemed too young to consent.

Will murder, rape and sexual abuse ever end?
We have to accept this now that in this country there is a devastating "sexual issue," which cannot be solved, and cannot be overcome.
"Sex" hangs over our heads as a giant damnation. Because it is continuously oppressed with "bans and sins" and because there is a non-ending sexual hunger, every passing day, we are left face to face with an issue with sexual content.

A US judge has ordered a 19-year-old man to refrain from sexual activity until he gets married as part of his sentencing after the teen was convicted of the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl. Disabled woman 'raped in Istanbul mall restroom'
A wheelchair-bound woman suffering from a severe muscular disease has been raped in the toilet of a shopping mall in Istanbul, with the suspect going on trial claiming "consent."
The 39-year-old woman, who lives with her family in Istanbul, was bound to a wheelchair after being diagnosed with a muscular disease 12 years ago.

Trial begins after volunteer women teachers in İzmir narrowly escape sexual assault
Six female teachers who volunteered to provide additional education to 35 students in a village of the Karabağlar district in the western province of İzmir barely escaped sexual assault by a group of men in the village in May, it has been revealed after the opening of a trial into the case, according to daily Habertürk.
Erdoğan approves bill introducing tougher sentences for sex abuse of children
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan approved a bill on Dec. 2 that will gradually increase sentences for the sexual abuse of children nine days before a Constitutional Court annulment over the content of the crime goes into effect.
According to the new law, there will be a distinction made between victims aged under 12 and those aged between 12 and 18.

A child should not be forced into marriage even if the parents give their consent to it, Turkey's top cleric said, referring to a verse in the Quran on the importance of marriage.
Turkish parliament passes code to increase sentence to abusers
The Turkish parliament's General Assembly has passed a code that would increase sentences meted out to sexual abusers on Nov. 24.
According to the new code, child sexual abusers will be sentenced to jail between eight and 15 years. The sentence will be between three to eight years if no rape is in question.
Only a fraction of rape victims take legal action, report shows
Around 5,000 rapes are reported in Greece every year but only around 150 of the victims take legal action, according to the Hellenic Society of Forensic Medicine.
A recent report indicates that 24 percent of women have reported physical abuse (18 percent by their partner) while 6 percent of women claim to have suffered sexual abuse (5 percent by their partner).
