Lebanon scraps law absolving rapists who marry victims

Lebanon's parliament abolished on Aug. 16 a law that absolves rapists if they marry their victims, joining other Arab states that have repealed "marry-your-rapist" laws in recent weeks.

Lawmaker Elie Kayrouz, who backed ending the law - article 522 of the penal code - said other clauses also required change to protect women and children. 

Piraeus rapist nabbed

A 29-year-old man was arrested Monday in Piraeus for repeated rape offenses and for carrying an illegal weapon. According to police, the suspect would stalk lone young women with his motorbike, or on foot, and follow them to the entrance of their apartment block. He would then follow his victims into the elevator and force himself upon them.

Three women rape man for three days

A South African man was left traumatized after being drugged and raped ‘numerous’ times over three days by three female assailants.

The 23-year-old’s ordeal began when he hailed down a communal taxi in eastern Pretoria on Friday – which had three young women inside.

The taxi began to change direction and the man was ordered to sit in the front.

In the last five years, police forces in England and Wales cautioned 45 adults for rape and 1,585 for sexual assault, The Mirror reports.

Over the same period, 148 children were cautioned for rape and 606 for sexual assault.

Fugitive nabbed in northern Athens after putting up a fight

A 57-year-old fugitive rapist and robber tried to pepper spray officers during his arrest in the northern Athenian suburb of Papagou, police said on Tuesday.

The violent criminal was on a wanted list after having escaped from a holding cell in the southern coastal suburb of Glyfada when he was intercepted in Papagou by officers of the DIAS motorcycle squad.

A 14-year-old Swedish girl who was sexually abused in her school by two boys is now receiving her education at another school, while the attackers remain enrolled at their current school. One of them, a 16-year-old carrying the Arab name Ajuub, suffers from an “impaired ability to understand what is right and wrong,” the verdict stated. He was therefore punished mildly.
