Mitsotakis: ‘We are not destined to live in perpetual tension with Turkey’
"We need a strong government to ensure the continuation of the foreign policy we have pursued towards Turkey in recent years," New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Monday during his visit to the Dodecanese island of Leros ahead of the June 25 elections.
Turkish unmanned aircraft overfly Kinaros
A Turkish UAV that entered the Athens FIR without filing a flight plan, violated national airspace and then flew over Kinaros at 19,000 feet at 15:05.
The Turkish UAV was identified and intercepted in accordance with international rules as a matter of routine.

Greece opens two more 'closed' migrant camps
Greece on Nov. 27 opened two more of its new "closed" migrant camps that have been criticized by rights groups for their restrictive measures.
"A new era is beginning," Minister of Migration Notis Mitarachi said announcing the opening of the camps on the islands of Leros and Kos.

Johansson Tours Greek Islands Nudging Authorities Over Migrant Centres
The European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, is on a two-day visit to the Greek islands of Samos and Lesvos, marking the allocation of over a quarter-billion euros of EU funds to the Greek state towards construction of new migrant reception facilities on the Aegean islands.
President visits sole inhabitant of Kinaros
Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Wednesday visited the remote border island of Kinaros, where she met with its only inhabitant, Katerina Katsotourhi.
Located in the west of the islands of Leros and Amorgos, Kinaros is the second western-most island of the Dodecanese after Astypalea, and its coastline measures only 4.5 square kilometers.

Lower VAT rate extended for five islands until June 2021
A lower VAT rate introduced by the government for the five Greek islands mostly affected by migration has been extended until June 2021, the government announced on Friday.
The measure is applicable in Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Leros and Kos and was included in a joint ministerial decision, the migration ministry said.
Migration flows reduced by 91 pct in May, ministry says
The arrival of migrants dropped 91 pct in May compared with the same month last year, according to data released by the Migration Policy Ministry on Thursday.
On four islands (Chios, Samos, Leros, Kos) there were no arrivals last month.

Despite the declining course of the coronavirus epidemic, the islands continue to boost their levels of preparedness in view of the tourist season which begins formally on June 15.
Scores homeless after Greek migrant camp fire: Official
Scores of asylum-seekers were left homeless when a fire tore through a camp on the Greek island of Samos, a migration ministry official said on April 27.
"Around 200 people have been left homeless," Migration Ministry Secretary Manos Logothetis told AFP.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Dendias calls for migration burden sharing in speech to UN Human Rights Council
Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias in a speech to the annual meeting of the UN Human Rights Council - which this year focused on the protection of children - stressed that Greece has saved the lives of thousands of refugees and migrants and has shouldered a disproportionately large share of the burden of the crisis.
