Turk fighter jets violate Greek air space

Four Turkish fighter jets flying in formation entered the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) between the eastern Aegean islands of Lesvos and Chios Tuesday, authorities said.

According to the National Defense General Staff (GEETHA), the Turkish jets broke formation after entering the FIR at 2.33 p.m. and one pair flew over the islet of Anthropofagoi at 10,000 feet at 2.57 p.m.

Ferry services between Lesbos and İzmir to start in May 2017

Catamarans owned by the ferry company of Turkey's İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will start regular trips between the Alsancak Port and the Greek island of Lesbos in a bid to boost tourism in the Aegean Sea, Northern Aegean Islands Economic Development Agency (EOAEN) head Thrasos Kalogridis has said. 

Northern Aegean governor warns of 'unmanageable situation' at migrant camps

In comments following a large fire possibly started during a riot at a migrant processing center on the island of Lesvos on Monday night, the regional governor for the Northern Aegean, Christiana Kalogirou, warned of an 'unmanageable situation' on the islands bearing the brunt of the refugee crisis.

New clashes between groups of refugees and migrants of different nationalities broke out on Monday evening inside the Moria hot spot in Lesvos, police said. Around 4,000 asylum seekers have escaped the camp in the Aegean island of Lesbos.

The blaze at the Moria camp has left a trail of destruction including damaged tents and housing units.

Rumors of new camps dismissed, as islanders demand 'immediate' action

As simmering tensions threaten to boil over on the islands of the eastern and northern Aegean due to the prolonged stay of a growing number of refugees, Migration Policy Minister Yiannis Mouzalas dismissed rumors on Friday that three more so-called hot spots will be created on the island of Chios.
