Balkan Countries Close Border Crossings to Stop Coronavirus

Serbia, Albania and Romania have closed many of their border crossings in order to combat the spread of the coronavirus, leaving some parts of the Balkans practically cut off for civil traffic.

All countries of the region have either banned entry or introduced special restrictive measures for passengers arriving from countries with mid to high to risk of coronavirus.

Rail crossing safety seminar for children

A new rail crossing safety seminar is to be taught at Greek schools after getting the green light from the Education Ministry. 

The program, which has so far been voluntarily presented to 20,000 pupils in 120 schools, was developed by three engineers at state-controlled railway company OSE following two accidents in Larissa, central Greece, in 2017 that killed two underage children. 

Motorist killed in crash with train

A woman motorist was killed on Saturday when her car collided with a train near the city of Trikala in central Greece. 

Fire service workers removed the woman's body from the wreck of her vehicle following the collision on the level crossing at Pyrgetos. No personal details were made public. 

Two killed in Imathia train crash

Two people were killed on Saturday when the car they were in crashed with an oncoming train as it attempted to pass through an unmanned level crossing in a rural part of Imathia in northern Greece.

According to local news site Verianet.gr, the driver of the car was a 54-year-old local resident, while his passenger was a 74-year-old woman.

Three Bulgarians have Died at a Railway Crossing in Spain

Three Bulgarians were killed after a freight train hit their car at a railway crossing in Spain. They have worked temporarily in the country, reported Spanish media El Pais, quoted by Nova TV.

The car was passing through a barrier-free crossing. There was a traffic light that worked according to the words of the mayor of the town of Fontanar, where the incident happened.

Four dead, two injured in car, train collision in Turkey's east

At least four young men were killed and two others seriously injured in a collision of a car and freight train on a railway crossing in Turkey's eastern Mu? province late Aug. 1, authorities said. 

According to police officials, there were six passengers in the car, which collided with a freight train when it approached a railway crossing in Hasköy district's town of Düzk??la.
