While the Turkish Librarians Association has listed the most preferred books by library readers in 2023, the most borrowed book was author Jose Saramago's novel, "Blindness."

The Association will organize a series of events under the theme of "Sustainability and Advocacy" as part of the 60th Library Week, which will be held between March 25-31 this year.

Information wants to be free. That observation, first made in 1984, anticipated the internet and the world to come. It cost nothing to digitally reproduce data and words, and so we have them in numbing abundance.

The number of libraries in the country has surged by 43.4 percent in 2022, data by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has revealed.

The Turkish Education Ministry has launched a major eco-friendly and zero-waste focused project aimed at enabling schools to generate their own electricity from solar power, including setting up libraries built with recycled materials.

A library named after daily Hürriyet's columnist Doğan Hızlan has been inaugurated by Turkish Education Minister Mahmut Özer inside a high school in Istanbul's Beşiktaş district.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on April 20, Hızlan advised young people to read books, saying, "Everybody should learn their native language well, and this can only be obtained by reading books."
