Drilling for gas in Crete to start earlier

US energy giant ExxonMobil, which has partnered with Greece's HELLENiQ Energy (formerly Hellenic Petroleum) in searching for natural gas and oil west and southwest of the Aegean island of Crete, not only is unconcerned about Turkish aggressive rhetoric against Greece but plans to accelerate its timeline for exploratory drilling by a year, Kathimerini understands.

Libyan wins top Arabic fiction prize with debut novel

Libyan author Mohamed Alnaas became the youngest winner of the prestigious International Prize for Arabic Fiction with his debut novel "Bread on Uncle Milad's Table" on May 22.

Alnaas, 31, will receive $50,000 and funds will also be provided to translate his book into English, organizers said on their website.

Turkey reiterates its continued support to Libyan Government

Turkey's deputy foreign minister reiterated Ankara's continued support on Nov. 12 for the Libyan Government National Unity and the political process.

Sedat Önal spoke at an International Conference on Libya in Paris that was co-chaired by France, Germany and Italy. He said it was very important that Libyans joined the group.

Turkey to continue to support Libya, says top diplomat

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on Nov. 10 met the visiting head of Libya's High Council of State in the capital Ankara. 

"Discussed current political situation and latest developments with Khaled al-Mishri, the president of High Council of State of Libya," Çavuşoğlu said on Twitter. 

Libya FM suspended days before international conference

Libya's presidential council suspended Foreign Minister Najla al-Mangoush from her duties on Nov. 6 days before an international conference is to make a new push to restore stability to the war-battered nation.

The council opened an inquiry into alleged "administrative breaches" by Mangoush, spokeswoman Najla Weheba told the Libya Panorama television channel.
