Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Önal underscored Turkey's strong support for Libya's security and stability on Oct. 21. 

Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Önal and Khalid Al-Mishri, the chairman of the Libyan High Council of State, discussed strengthening relations between their two countries on Oct. 20. 

Al-Mishri and Önal met in the Libyan capital Tripoli, according to a statement by the press office of the High Council of State.

Turkey's top diplomat has reiterated its support to Libya and underlined that the upcoming elections slated for the end of this year should be held in a free, fair and credible manner.

The decision of the Libyan House of Representatives to withdraw the vote of confidence given to the National Unity Government at the session held in Tobruk on Sept. 21 will not contribute to the stability and transition process of Libya, the Foreign Ministry said.

A son of Libya's ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi has been released from prison in the capital Tripoli, security sources said on Sept. 5.

Al-Saadi Gaddafi, 48, was freed through a decision by the Libyan Chief Prosecutor's Office and the approval of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh.

It was also stated that he left the country to move to Turkey.

Turkey and Algeria are on the same page when it comes to many regional issues, including Libya and Tunisia, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated on Aug. 14.

The U.S. ambassador to Libya on Aug. 13 paid a visit to Turkey for talks with top Turkish officials on boosting U.S. support for Libya's general elections set for this December.

Turkey welcomed the reopening of a strategic coastal road linking Libya's east to its west, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on July 31.

"We welcome the official opening of the Misrata - Sirte Coastal Road on 30 July 2021, which has been closed for a long time," it said in a statement.

With the right policies, Turkey could play a crucial role in Libya's reconstruction period, a top business leader said.
Murtaza Karanfil, the head of Turkey-Libya Business Council of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK), told Anadolu Agency in an interview that Turkey is not seen as a colonial state in the region like many other countries.
