Armed Group Seizes 10 Staff at Tunisian Consulate in Libya's Tripoli

Tunisia's foreign ministry said on Friday Libyan militiamen stormed the Tunisian consulate in Tripoli and took 10 employees hostage, the AP reported.

The ministry said in a statement it denounced the intrusion of an armed group in the offices of consulate and the detention of 10 staff of the mission. The ministry didn't identify the armed group.

Libya: 600 African migrants attempting to cross Med intercepted

The Libyan coast guard arrested about 600 African migrants, including a  pregnant woman and 18 minors, who were trying to board a fishing boat in an apparent attempt to land on some EU shore.

Libya, which is in chaos after Gaddafi’s downfall, has since become a portal for illegal immigration from sub-Saharan Africa into Europe via the Mediterranean.

 

 

 

Dozens of Migrants Feared Drowned Off Sicily in Latest Sinking

More than 40 people are feared drowned off Italy in the latest sinking incident in the Mediterranean Sea.

According to media reports, 41 bodies and just four survivors were found by navy searchers on Thursday when they arrived in the Italian port of Traponi.

According to the survivors, their group of 45 people had left Tripoli on a raft, ANSA news agency reports.

IS Loyalists Claim Responsibility for Two Attacks on Embassies in Libya

A bomb exploded at the gate of the Moroccan embassy in Libya's capital, Tripoli, on Monday, causing some damage but injuring nobody.

The bomb was left in a bag at the gate of the embassy which is currently inactive. The blast caused some damage to the building and cars parked nearby.

Morocco is hosting UN-sponsored talks between rival Libyan government factions.
