Lidl says sorry for removing crosses from Greek churches on packaging
Supermarket chain Lidl has apologized for airbrushing Christian crosses out of images of the Greek island of Santorini on some of its food packaging, after being hit by criticism on social media.

German supermarket chain Lidl is being criticized for editing a photo showing a Greek church by removing the Orthodox cross on top of it.
The photograph is used in packaging of the Eridanous range of Greek products, and the company has responded by saying that they did this wishing to be "religiously neutral."

With many Greeks leaving the larger cities for the summer holidays, large supermarket chains have taken their battle for a slice of the market beyond their traditional stomping ground.

German businesses prefer to trade with Bulgaria rather than invest into the country, an article on DW Bulgaria's website argues.
Bilateral trade has posted a sevenfold increase since Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007 and is likely to reach EUR 7 B in 2016, with the volume of exported goods by Bulgaria now being just 25% lower than the one imported from Germany.

Neighborhood minimarkets and discount chains were last year's net gainers in food retailing (excluding open-air street markets). These two categories saw their turnover grow in 2015 compared to 2014, according to a report issued by research firm IRI.

Lidl Bulgaria Faces Fine for Misleading Advertisement
The Commission for Protection of Competition (KZK) established that Lidl Bulgaria had committed an offence through a misleading advertising campaign.
As a result, KZK imposed a sanction on Lidl amounting to nearly BGN 1.9 M, which represents 0.35 % of the company's turnover for the previous financial year.
Lidl to open 20 retail outlets in Serbia in 2016, 2017
German retailer Lidl will build another 20 retail outlets in Serbia in 2016 and 2017.
The company's representatives announced this during a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade on Wednesday.
