Vandals wreck electronic ticket machines at electric railway station

Vandals destroyed electronic ticket machines at the electric railway station (ISAP) in Perissos, north of Athens, on Wednesday night.

According to authorities, a group of around 15 people with sledgehammers smashed machinery in a raid shortly before midnight.

No arrests were reported.

Kifisia-Piraeus line (ISAP) to be fully air-conditioned during heat wave

STASY, the operator of Athens's's fixed-track public transport system, said Wednesday that train compartments will be fully air conditioned to cope with the heat wave currently gripping Greece.

"All our trains will have air conditioning," STASY said in response to complaints about the faulty system on trains serving the Kifissia-Piraeus line (ISAP).

Major transport disruption in Athens due to protest action

Public transport in Athens will be severely affected by work stoppages as part of protest action timed to coincide with a general strike Wednesday.

Buses will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Trolley buses will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. while the Piraeus-Kifissia electric railway (ISAP) and the Athens metro will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Walkouts to disrupt transport and services

Commuters are in for three days of upheaval as public transport employees hold work stoppages as part of protest action timed to coincide with a general strike tomorrow and an austerity vote in Parliament on Thursday.

On Tuesday there will be no buses from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. while on Wednesday and Thursday buses will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Labor Day action to disrupt public services

Several strikes and work stoppages will cause disruptions in public transportation services on Monday, as workers mark Labor Day.

A 24-hour strike will be staged by Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) employees, as well as workers on the capital's Proastiakos suburban railway, starting midnight on Sunday and ending midnight on Monday, and affecting services to Athens airport.

Woman hospitalized after falling on tracks at KAT railway station

A woman was being treated in a hospital in northern Athens on Tuesday after falling on the tracks at KAT station of the urban electric railway (ISAP).

A team of 15 rescue workers form the local fire service were dispatched to the station to remove her from the tracks after she was apparently dragged along by the train.
