Turkey's lira firmed nearly 1 percent on Oct. 29, extending its recent rally after investor worries were partially eased.

AFP - Turkey on Friday threatened to respond if the United States levied further sanctions over the detention of an American pastor which has sparked a diplomatic standoff and battered the Turkish currency.

Presidential spokesperson İbrahim Kalın said the recent fluctuations of the Turkish Lira against the United States dollar have been "brought under control," adding that the speculations over the national currency have been overcome. 

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkey doubled tariffs on some U.S. imports including cars, alcohol and tobacco on Wednesday in retaliation for U.S. moves, but the lira rallied a further six percent after a fresh move by banking authorities to underpin the currency.
