Deloitte: Romania's gross minimum wage above CEE average, effective tax rate highest in region

Romania's gross minimum wage exceeds the Central and Eastern European average, but at the same time the country has the highest effective tax rate in the region, specifically 41.5 percent, shows a survey by Deloitte Romania.

The effective tax rate is the highest, at 41.5 percent, for a gross wage of 1,000 euro, whilst the region's average is 27 pct.

Lithuania Bans Use Of Phones In Streets

Lithuania's phone-addicted pedestrians will have to do without mobile devices when they cross streets under a new regulation approved on Wednesday as the Baltic country seeks to curb traffic deaths.

"Pedestrians must not use mobile devices before stepping onto the street or walking across it," Transport Minister Rokas Masiulis told a cabinet meeting that was broadcast live.

Romania and Bulgaria have Lowest Prices for Consumer Goods and Services in EU

Bulgaria and Romania had the lowest prices for consumer goods and services in the European Union in 2017.

The prices were 52% below the EU average in Romania and 56% lower than the EU average in Bulgaria. However, the prices of goods and services in Romania increased compared to 2000, when they stood at only 35% of the EU average, Eurostat data shows.

Bulgaria is First in the EU by the Number of Women Working in the IT Sector

It turns out we are the first in the EU by the number of women working in the IT sector, as well as the number of girls studying information technology, according to Eurostat. 

In our country, 26.5% of IT specialists are ladies. Secondly, Romania and Lithuania are ranked at 25.7 per cent. At the same time, the share in Hungary and the Czech Republic is below 10 percent.
