The Democratic Left Foundation (FSD) was launched on Friday in Bucharest in the presence of national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Victor Ponta, Chairman of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) Massimo D'Alema, PSD Executive Chairman Liviu Dragnea and over 150 guests from the academia, civil society and political quarters.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta says his deputy Liviu Dragnea did not act alone and breached no law in the 2012 referendum to discharge the then President Traian Basescu.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta arrived on Wednesday morning at the High Court of Cassation and Justice (Romania's Supreme Court), where he was subpoenaed as a witness in the case of the 2012 referendum for the discharge of the then President Traian Basescu.

The High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ, the Supreme Court of Romania - editor's note) has set for March 11 the following date of hearings in the 'Referendum' criminal case, when it decided to hear the witnesses proposed by the defence attorney, among whom Prime minister Victor Ponta.

Judiciary sources told AGERPRES Prime Minister Victor Ponta will be subpoenaed by the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) to testify in the Referendum case, where Vice Prime Minister Liviu Dragnea is indicted.

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) parliamentary groups will decide on Monday on the President's proposal for the designation of Eduard Hellvig as Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) head, PSD Chairman, Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced on Friday.

The executive chairman of the Social Democrat Party (PSD), Liviu Dragnea, stated, on Wednesday evening, that the main reason for which Mircea Geoana and Marian Vanghelie were expelled from the party was that they sabotaged the activity ongoing during the presidential election campaign, it being "the straw that broke the camel's back" due to "several reasons" that appeared previously.

The executive chairman of the Social Democrat Party (PSD, main in ruling coalition), Liviu Dragnea has commented on Thursday night the statements by senator Mircea Geoana in reference to the necessity of a new government, saying they are 'grave and irresponsible.'

Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva will be on a two-day working visit to Romania on Thursday and Friday, the government's information service reports.
