The world's largest weapons manufacturer, the US military technology giant Lockheed Martin, has expressed interest in developing new research projects in Romania, including in the field of new technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Romania's main objectives in the defence field, in the context of the Strategic Partnership with the US, were approached on Tuesday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, at a meeting with the CEO of the US company of military products and services Lockheed Martin Corporation, Marillyn A.

Turkey has successfully test-fired its first cruise missile with a warhead capable of penetrating a concrete bunker, according to Turkey's industry and technology minister.

The first F-16 Block 70 aircraft for the Bulgarian Air Force will be produced in December 2022, the manufacturer-company Lockheed Martin and the United States Embassy in Bulgaria announced. This aircraft will train Bulgarian pilots.

Lockheed Martin Corp said on Tuesday it was working to establish alternate supply sources for F-35 parts in the United States after the Pentagon decided last week to remove Turkey from the fighter jet program.
On a post-earnings call, Lockheed's chief executive officer said the company would be able to remove Turkey from its manufacturing supply chain by March 2020.

Washington is looking at imposing financial sanctions on Turkish firms beyond those that build parts for the Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter jet, over Ankara's plans to buy a Russian air defense system, a top Pentagon official said on Monday.

The US has deployed the anti-ballistic missile THAAD system at the military base of Deveselu in southern Romania.

It is the first time that this advanced anti-ballistic missile system has been deployed anywhere in Europe under NATO command.

The U.S. State Department has approved the possible sale of eight F-16 aircraft and related equipment to Bulgaria at an estimated cost of $1.67 billion, a Pentagon agency said on Monday, reports Yahoo News.

A spending bill reflecting Congressional priorities to advance US foreign policy and US foreign assistance programs, submitted Thursday to the House of Representatives, seeks to limit the transfer of the Lockheed Martin Corp's F-35 to Turkey unless Ankara, a NATO ally, reconsiders its decision to purchase the S-400 defense system from Russia.
