A conference of reflection

It's one of those times when the final result exceeds expectations. The three-day conference that Kathimerini organized last week, along with the National Bank Cultural Foundation, Delphi Economic Forum, and the Hellenic Observatory at the LSE's European Institute, on 50 years since the restoration of democracy in Greece, to a large degree ended up being what we all hoped for.

Lessons from 50 years of democracy

Countries learn from their history, past and present, in order to move forward with the necessary wisdom and appreciation for what has gone right and willingness to correct what has gone wrong.

The last 50 years have been extraordinary for Greece in so many ways. The political, economic and social changes have been immense, despite the many deficiencies and mistakes.

Costas Simitis to receive honorary fellowship from LSE

Greece's former socialist prime minister Costas Simitis will be awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) at a ceremony on 8 December in Athens, the university announced.

"The former Prime Minister of Greece and LSE alumnus will be recognised for his exemplary contributions to society," LSE said in a press release on Thursday.
